Inspirational Poem
October 18th, 2010
Don’t Quit
When things go wrong as they sometimes will
When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile but you have to sigh
When care is pressing you down a bit
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit
Life is queer with its twists and turns
As everyone of us sometimes learns
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won if he’d stuck it out
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow
You may succeed with another blow
Often the goal is nearer than it seems
To a faint and [...]
Mrs. Murray
October 11th, 2010
Mrs Murray is in reception-again! On this occasion, the difficulty does not relate to dog litter or dirty road signs or the fact that a pathway has developed a crack. No, her concern on this occasion relates to refuse collection and the fact that the refuse collectors left spillage when emptying her dustbins. This time it’s personal!
Now normally, Mrs. Murray gets quite agitated and can become abusive, in a Mrs. Murray type of way. On this occasion you are told that she is beside herself with rage and has insisted on speaking with you.
An invitation to wait in a private [...]
Business Writing in a Digital Age
October 8th, 2010
The digital age is great, isn’t it? Text messages, instant media, emails that can send reports and notifications immediately. It would make you wonder how we ever survived with ‘snail mail’.
Art thou at times confused?
These instant contact tools have pushed communication towards a more conversational, less formal tone. Web copy and articles are written as if the author is addressing a group of friends instead of a readership. It’s all a little more familiar. I’m sure you’ve noticed there are countless articles on how language has evolved and adapted to suit these new mediums. Change is only natural of [...]
Staying Positive on The Phone
October 5th, 2010
Selling is an unpredictable game, you can’t tell which way the day will go. Soaring highs when you’re on the ball surpassing your target; and dispiriting lows when everyone around you seems to be making sales and no matter what you do the best you can get is a civil ‘maybe’.
Easy as it is to lose your mo-jo, it’s so important to sound positive and upbeat when making sales calls. As clichéd as it sounds, people really can hear you smile as you speak.
So how do you stay friends with the phone and go on to dial another [...]

September 27th, 2010
1) Answer your phone.
I’m sure you’ve had this problem before; pick up the phone to call an organisation with a grievance about a product only to be left on hold for what feels like hours, or to converse with a robot that can’t quite understand you. Very frustrating I’m sure you’ll agree. That’s why it is so important to make sure you always have someone to man the phones, how can you attempt to offer good customer service if you can’t even be contacted? Remember sitting in school or college while the lecturer droned on about such and such a topic; no matter how interesting the subject or how hard you tried you found it difficult to stay concentrated for more than a half hour or so? Doodling pics and drifting into dream world is not uncommon, with the average adult only having between a 10 and 20 minute attention span.
