Effective Stress Management
August 3rd, 2010
Unfinished proposals; piles of messages needing attention; daughter’s communion approaching; Eircom needs paying; veins pulsating; stress ball down to its last threads……sound familiar? Stop. Take a breather. It’s only natural to feel stressed out and under pressure from time to time. Life seems to demand so much more from us these days; trying to juggle family life along with a busy work schedule it’s no wonder we get frazzled.
Here are a few tips to help you cope with the inevitable pressures and stresses of life;
- Make a to-do list and do your best to stick by it. Managing time and prioritizing tasks will do a lot to alleviate stress.
- Don’t be afraid to say no. There’s only so much one person can do. No-one expects you to be a superhero.
- Take things step by step.Take a short break between each task; even just to stretch your legs; you will feel more relaxed undertaking the next task.
- Take time to relax and reflect. Taking just ten or twenty minutes a day to sit back and reflect can greatly reduce your stress levels.
- Live a healthy lifestyle. We’re all aware of the benefits a good diet and exercise has on our bodies, but what you may not be aware of is the benefits a healthy lifestyle has on your stress managing abilities and mental well being.
These tips are quite broad and relate to pressure from all walks of life. If the pressure you are experiencing is more closely related to work, it may be worth your while to take a Stress Management Course. Whatever the cause, it is important to take a breather and detach yourself from whatever it is that has you under stress.
